Hazel Sig Comemora 103 Anos em 1925

January 23th 1925, today marks the 103rd birthday of Aviation pioneer Hazel Sig. The Sig RC planes most aviators are familiar with go all the way back to 1951. Interestingly she was 16 years old when the Piper J3 was even built and even predates the original Taylor cub.

Hazel Sig's Flying Career:

- First ever flight at around 3 months old was with Charles Lindbergh

- Initially learned to fly in Aeronca Champ

- Taught in a Cessna 140

- In the mid 1950's started flying the J3 cub, then clipped its wings and continued to fly it, and later the Spacewalker in airshows

Her comments on the J3 Cub vs a Reed Conversion Clipped wing cub:

I had done solo aerobatics before we clipped the wings, too. A regular Cub with big wings is pretty slow but it glides better. In a clipped-wing Cub, you had better turn a tight base, because it glided like a brick. All the maneuvers were cleaner in the clipped-wing Cub. Snap rolls were tighter.Parágrafo Novo
